Pandemic: Destruction and Rebirth

Collage and Mixed Media with handmade papers, marbled papers, wallpaper, textured papers, and processed magazine pictures

I created this piece during the shutdown from Covid in 2020. To appreciate what is happening in this artwork, I would suggest zooming into it and start viewing from the lower right, then left, middle and above. This represents the sequence of events as we know it.

The city where it began is observed on the earth. The woman drowning represents death. The family picnic appears like a nuclear fall out, because you cannot see the enemy.

The Pandemic has been described as a beast, which kept us in our homes. This is represented by the dragon in the middle. Paisley represents the germs. Towards the top, is an embryo which denotes rebirth.

This artwork received an Award for 1st place, in Mixed Media, in the Middlesex County Senior Arts Contest in NJ. It was then automatically entered into the NJ State Senior Arts Contest, where it won an Award for 3rd place in the State for Mixed Media.
